At last it's here!! I mean, of course, Part 3 of Shayna's Pond. Trust me, it was worth the wait. You think JJ's been in trouble before but now someone else is in trouble simply for talking to her! And then of course there the question of Jim . . . |

Hi. Here's the new me. See how much more mature I look now? There are a couple of other pictures of me, too, and Peggy said she'd switch them around once in a while so you could see just how cute I really am. This month we're starting our new format and we all hope you will enjoy it. |
This paperback is very intersting, but it will never replace a hardcover book—it makes a very poor doorstep. |

Actually, it isn't a letter from them, it's more what they have asked me to convey to you so you will know what is going on here at Harman Mysteries. Peggy Herrmann is our Webmaster. She is also a tax preparer. This is her last year, to be exact. The point is, she's busy taking care of everyone's taxes. Of course, hers hasn't been done yet. Go figure. Anyway, that makes it difficult for her to do the posting. It doesn't really matter when others turn in their articles, they do not get posted until Peggy has time to do it. Quite frequently she is posting at two in the morning. Since she is doing all this work, Jack, her husband, her retired husband, has to take over the household chores. That means he isn't getting his Astronomy articles written. The third installment of Arlene's detective series, Unfinished Business - A Ted Peters Mystery, will hopefully be in the hands of a new publisher by the end of this month. There is no solid agreement yet but we all hope the publisher will agree to take on the project. That has kept her busy and, somewhere along the line, she lost a week. She thought this was the third week of March, not the fourth. She hopes you will accept her apologies for being late with the second installment of Shayna's Pond. We are all hoping you will be patient and understand that we will be back on track by May 16th. Yes, you heard me right. Peggy claims she will need at least a month to recoup before she is fully back on track. However, she has promised me that my new picture will be posted before that. My real friend, Ron, sent her an updated picture so everyone can see how much cuter I have gotten since the picture you see above was taken. Trust me, my loyal readers, they are doing their best to make this a Website you will want to return to again and again. If you have any suggestions, why not send them to me? They have asked me to read and answer all the e-mails while they are getting caught up on everything else. ( buddy@harmanmysteries.com ) After all, until they give me something to pass along to you, I have nothing to do but sit around and look cuteand supervise, of course. |

Linda and Barry Bolewicz have kindly agreed to help us with our alpaca farming facts. This will help us to keep JJ (June Jessup), of Louderback fame, on the right track with her farming. When you visit our Louderback page you will see some of the pictures they have allowed us to use so you can visualize what is going on at JJ's public shearing. Please visit them at www.easygofarm.com for more information. |

Cricket's Corner - The View from My Cat Tree |
PRESUMED INNOCENT I’d like to know whatever happened to presumed innocent until proven guilty. Now, I don’t know how it works around your home, but here’s how it goes in mine. Something is found to be out of order, oh, say a piece of paper is shredded. The question is always asked: “Do you know anything about this, Cricket?” Just like that. My name at the end of it, said in a way that you know, if printed, it would be both bold and italicized. There are others in this house, but it’s always my name at the end of the question. Okay, I will admit to doing some things that aren’t always approved of by everyone, but they don’t always do things I approve of, either and yes, I react, usually by biting or clawing. Well, come on, how else am I supposed to let them know I don’t approve of something? After all, they don’t speak my elevated language. Here’s another example. The other day the towel that’s supposed to cover the electronic keyboard was on the floor. Again, I was asked if I knew anything about it. It’s always like that. If anything is knocked over, scattered, shredded, anything, I’m automatically suspected. The thing is, sometimes I’m really not the one to blame. Once in a while it’s one of the outdoor kitties that come in to get their treats when breakfast and dinner is served. Other times it’s the wind from an open window that blew papers around. If you ask me, jumping to conclusions has caused a lot of the problems over the years. We see something we don’t like and immediately think we know how it happened, then strike out at the one we think is guilty, only to find out later we were wrong. If only we’d taken the time to investigate first. My big cats had something like that happen not too long ago and it really hurt them. Someone found out that they don’t let the outdoor kitties stay inside when it’s really cold. This person said the kitties would be better off at the shelter because there would at least be a lot of other cats for them to curl up with and keep warm. Now, most of us know that a shelter is, for the most part, a death sentence for an animal, especially a cat. So this person was, in effect, saying they would be better of on death row than with my big cats who really love the little kitties. If this person had investigated first, here’s what they would have discovered. The outdoor kitties enjoy coming in but, with the exception of one, Missy, they freak out if the front door is closed while they’re in. One in particular starts screaming and slamming himself against the windows trying to get out and that, in turn, panics the other cats and they start running around, yelling, too. My big cats can’t leave the door open when it’s thirty-two degrees outside and they can’t have the outdoor kitties being so scared and getting hurt by slamming into closed windows. The only answer is to leave them out. As for Missy, even she wants out after about half an hour and she becomes very upset if they don’t let her out. She doesn’t care if it’s twenty-two degrees out and snow on the ground, she wants out. It’s sad because a lot of hurt feelings could have been avoided if the person had simply taken the time to find out what the real situation was before accusing my big cats of being cruel. My big cats tried to explain, telling this person that they have provided many places of shelter for the outdoor kitties and lining those shelters with blankets and serving them warm food both morning and night. But I guess it didn’t help because this person hasn’t spoken to them since then. How sad. Have you ever had something like that happen to you? You know, where you were accused of doing something bad when you were really innocent? Do you remember how it made you feel? Then, if you can, the next time you get upset about something, try to remember how you felt and gather all the facts before you act on your suspicions. It could save you some embarrassment and save someone else hurt feelings. What a nicer, kinder world we would have if everyone did that. Until next time, happy mousing, Cricket P. S. I just discovered I shredded something I shouldn’t have. I wonder if I should ‘fess up or ignore it. No, I know what I’ll do. I’ll tell them Missy did it. Yeah! |

Coming Soon!! |

The long-awaited Ted Peters Mystery, Logical Consequences, is scheduled to be released in October of this year. What's it About? A few days before Dr. Ponder was found murdered, the skull of a man was found in Hunter's Forest. However, Dr. Ponder was the richest, most loved citizen of Adrietta Bay. That made his case have higher priority than identifying the Hunter Forest victim. Margo Fraser, the beautiful ME, worked on the skull in her spare time, struggling to come up with a face for the victim. The day after the Ponder case was closed, the portrait she drew was published alongside one an expert from New York provided, based on a different technique. The very morning the pictures are run, a wealthy philanthropist named Celia Carrollton is murdered. It appears they both died the same way. Is there a connection or is it merely a coincidence? Much to his displeasure, Ted is called in to investigate. As usual, nothing is simple. The investigation is complicated by on-going problems with Sgt. Les Williams and Sgt. Paul Bragdon is moving. Add to that the concern that Margo may go to New York to pursue a career with Dr. Whittaker, the forensic specialist who provided the other picture for the paper. As the investigation progresses, long-buried sins are uncovered, resulting in some interesting events, including a life-threatening situation for Ted. Was it deliberate? A warning? An Accident? We'll never tell. You'll have to wait until November, pick up your own copy of Logical Consequences to find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed. |
